Genome BC Winter Symposium 2014
We are honoured to have been a part of the Genome BC’s 2014 Winter Symposium on January 21st, 2014. Watch this video of Angus Livingstone, GREAT’s project leader, presenting the program and Cameron Strachan, Lean Launch Pad alum, giving his 6 Minutes of Passion…for Science talk.

Lean Launch Pad for Genomics
genomics.entrepreneurship@UBC is excited to bring back the Lean Launch Pad (LLP) program. Our first session began January 24th, and we are pleased to be working with five new and promising teams!
Led by Sauder School of Business instructor Iain Verigin, the objectives of this 8-week program are to rapidly identify, evaluate, and develop potential venture opportunities for genomics, life sciences and natural resources research. Partner Project News
TAIGA Announces Workshop
Richard Hamelin and the TAIGA project team will be hosting a hands-on workshop and demonstration on February 20th, 2014 for their industry partners and project stakeholders. Participants will learn the basics of genomics and the TAIGA approach, how to identify symptomatic plant material and DNA extraction, as well as how to detect with TaqMan probes. There will also be a networking happy hour to close the workshop.
New Paper from Watershed Team
Gemma Dunna, Leila Harris, Christina Cook and Natalie Prystajecky of our Applied Metagenomics of the Watershed Microbiome partner project have published a new paper in Science of The Total Environment. Read “A comparative analysis of current microbial water quality risk assessment and management practices in British Columbia and Ontario, Canada” at Science Direct.

In late November, we hosted a Pecha Kucha-styled showcase called 6 Minutes of Passion…for Science with our friends at TerreWEB. This fun and inspirational event celebrated our speakers’ passion for their research and science.
